Blog #15
The move happened, and honestly, I am still taking it all in.
It was expansive. It feels like freedom. And yet my physical body is absolutely exhausted and craving rest. I am allowing myself that grace and patience because moving is genuinely one of the hardest things you can do, especially when you and your partner do most of it yourselves. It is basically the hardest workout of your life, and nobody warns you about that part.
Finnegan was with my parents during the actual move day, which was probably for the best. But the weeks leading up to it with all the boxes packed left him confused. I could see it in him. Dogs feel everything, and the energy of transition is very real.
As soon as we arrived at this beautiful new home, I watched him calm down almost immediately. The yard is bigger. There are so many new smells to take in. And yet he does not want to leave my side. He is completely glued to me, and honestly, I get it.
I am letting him smell and enjoy at his own pace, starting with just a couple of minutes on his own at a time, gently helping him adjust to this new space.
I can already feel how all of us will thrive here because this is exactly where we are meant to be. My heart feels relieved. That old place had been draining my nervous system for a long time, and it will take time to recover from that. But we are here now, and that is everything.
Change is hard for everyone. If you are moving or going through a transition with your pet and need support, I am here for you.
